Ready or Not!

Tonight at our 35 Week doctor's appointment, we had the shock of a lifetime. Despite the fact that our due date is still 5 weeks away, Sarah is already 4cm dilated and 100% effaced. According to Dr. Cropper, "the baby could be born tonight or 2-3 weeks from now, but will probably not make it to March 15th." Our first reaction was disbelief because despite the fact that we are anxiously awaiting her arrival, we had no idea that she might make such an early appearance. After further reflection, we are rejoicing in this great news...the fact that Sarah is already dilated means that labor will probably progress at a much faster rate than many first-time mothers experience. In addition, it's a good reminder that we really aren't in control of this process. For now, we're hoping to make it through this coming weekend--both because we've got another shower planned on Saturday with many of our best friends and because we've got LOTS to get ready before the little one arrives.
